Food has always been a central part of my life. It is more than simple nutrition for me. My fondest memories of childhood centre around kitchens. The kitchen of my parents' home where both my parents cooked, the kitchen of my maternal grandmother's home where my mother, my aunts and the cook made sumptuous Kerala delights, the kitchens of friends' homes where their mothers cooked up exotic (to my palate) tastes of roast meats and vegetables, the kitchen of my paternal grandmother's home where she and my aunts would add chilli enough to all dishes to cure any ills.
Later it was the kitchens of my brothers' and sister's homes where we would join together to cook, to clean, to talk, to laugh, to cry and to live.
It seems to me now that my life was lived around kitchens and around extraordinary people who were passionate about food.
It seems natural to me, then that food is central to my own family. My husband and two boys gravitate around our kitchen. The dog lies in the centre of the kitchen floor while I cook. If anyone is looking for me, it's a safe bet they'll find me in the kitchen. Though my passion for food may occasionally wane, it really doesn't take much to re-ignite that spark.
Recently, I have found myself talking more about food, sharing recipes more and learning more. I decided to start this blog as a way to share some of the wonderful recipes I have been given by family and friends, and also to talk about my own journey through the world of food.
From my kitchen to yours, I hope you find much to nourish your soul!
